Course Description: Drawing and Painting 1

Drawing and Painting 1

Credits: 0.5 (semester long)

Prerequisite: None

This is an introductory class in drawing and painting. The focus is to develop the confidence to draw, paint, and understand design according to their own tastes and preferences. Students will use a variety of media from graphite and charcoal, acrylic paint and pastel to drawing on digital tablets.

What does this mean?

This course is just what it says. We will be drawing and painting for half a year. We start out with a marking period of drawing to build up our skills and develop new techniques. These drawing skills and techniques will help lead us into creating paintings during our second marking period together. This course is built for students that enjoy working in 2D only. This course focuses on drawing skills and abilities that then transition into creating paintings.

During this half year course, students will fill out papers that will allow them to evaluate their own artwork. What worked best with this piece? Where did you struggle? How would you change it? Every art piece is a learning experience so that you do better in the future. Class critiques will allow students to comment on their own and others work, along with understanding and being considerate of others viewpoints.

Each large project is worth 100 points and will be graded according to a teacher created rubric. Focus is needed to complete work during the class time given. Since many of the supplies can not be taken home, this class has very little homework, but class time must be used wisely to finish projects on time.
